FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why are you different from other translation providers?

At Whisky and Wine Translations, we are led by a highly qualified and experienced specialist in translating wine and whisky-related content, Daniel González. We pride ourselves in this expertise and in recruiting the finest linguists, but that's not good enough. All of our Partner Translators also need to have a deep understanding too, be it through hands-on experience or qualifications (preferably both!).

This is because, to create whisky and wine translations with a spirit of excellence, it's important to be familiarised with the processes, terminology, history... Otherwise, it would be too easy to miss nuances or key contexts.
Also, knowing the market inside out helps us understand which is the segment and target audience of the product we will be translating. It also allows us to understand how to approach localisation in the target market and how to make your wine and whisky stand out.

Do you only offer translations for whisky & wine content?

No, our Founder and Lead Translator Daniel González has extensive experience and professional qualifications in other spirits and beverages. We work on translations of sherry, champagne, rum, gin, tequila, cider, vermouth and vodka as do our Partner Translators. However, we have a soft spot for whisky and wine and we thought they deserved their own space. If you are a producer of other types of alcoholic drink, please do not hesitate to ask whether we can help.

How much does a translation cost?

It really depends of the type of content and the volume of what you need to translate. It's not the same to translate a short sentence for social media than a whole marketing campaign, a contract for your resellers or training materials for your international staff. Please contact us today with details about what you need and we will send you a personalised quote as soon as possible.
What about confidentiality?

We regularly translate confidential marketing campaigns or details about products that have not been released yet. Therefore, we understand how important confidentiality is. When we start our collaboration, we will sign an NDA with you, and all of our Partner Translators also sign NDAs. Your confidentiality is of the utmost importance to us. We strictly adhere to European GDPR.

If you are here, it's because you are looking for a quality translation and therefore you won't be using machine translation. However, if anyone in your team ever has the temptation to translate a short paragraph using one of these tools, it's important for you to know that confidentiality is a big issue when using artificial intelligence as are embarrassing translation errors. Don't risk it. Use our team of professionals with a genuine spirit and mark of excellence.

What languages do you translate?

The working languages of Daniel, our Founder and Lead Translator, are English, Spanish and Italian. We also collaborate with a network of trusted Partner Translators who have a range of other languages. Enquire for details.
I'm interested in becoming a Partner Translator with Whisky & Wine Translations, how do I sign up?

To keep a spirit of excellence, we adhere to a very strict recruitment process of our freelance Partner Translators. If you have more than 10-years accredited translating experience, a degree in languages, linguistics or translation, and qualifications in wine or spirits, then we'd be keen to hear from you.
If you have these, then your first step is to send us your CV (accounting for all gaps in it), qualifications and accreditations. If these meet the standards we expect—see credentials tab for an example—then we'll arrange an online face-to-face interview. References will be requested. If you're successful for stage two of the recruitment process you'll be asked to undertake a spirit or wine translation, which will be assessed.
If you join our team you'll receive ongoing support from Leah, our Communications and Projects Manager, who is a highly-experienced ICF-ACTP qualified coach. We truly value all of our Partner Translators and your wellbeing.
