I am currently on a long journey to a conference. And it's a different one to usual. I have been to many translation conferences and to many wine and spirits events and trade shows, but this is the first time I will be attending a Wine Translation event. I'm really looking forward to it! Since I had a 3-hour wait in Valladolid, I have made the most of it by doing some sightseeing and visiting an ancient wine bodega where they sell their own gorgeous home-made wine (and I also had time to squeeze in some work!)... From tomorrow, VI Congreso Internacional sobre la Vid y el Vino y su Traducción (6th International Congress On The Language Of The Vine And Wine And Its Translation), in Soria. A very packed 4 days!

During my last business trip to the beautiful city of Edinburgh, I wanted to visit Holyrood distillery, the first single malt distillery to operate in the city center in nearly 100 years. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and it was very interesting to hear the fresh ideas the team are putting into practice when crafting their whisky. Their new make whisky was fantastic, so I will be looking forward to trying the different aged versions that will be coming out in the near future. Their gin was excellent as well (since whisky takes several years to be ready, new distilleries tend to make gin as well, which can reach the market very quickly and thus provide a more immediate source of income). There is certainly fierce competition in the Scotch Whisky market, but Holyrood is definitely a very welcome addition.

This was definitely another memorable wine tasting, in the traditional neighbourhood of Santiso, in Cangas del Narcea (Asturias, Spain), during the town Wine Festival. If you don't know the wines from the D. O. P. Cangas del Narcea, keep an eye out, since they are starting to get headlines (and important awards!) internationally. In this photo, Daniel was passionately explaining some Spanish wine terminology to a couple of British visitors, while Leah was getting emotional as we were tasting a beautiful wine by the winery of the legendary Antón Chicote, who we had the pleasure of meeting a few years before his passing.

... And this wine tasting was also in the top 3, in Toro, Spain. Toro is actually a wine that is often overlooked but it's very special. In this particular tasting, you could tell that Toro wine ran in the blood of the family for many generations. The passion (and extremely detailed knowledge) shone through, and the ancient underground bodega was one of those memories that stay with you.
